Another booming explosion filled the air, and the magus turned back to the window but could only see a glare reflecting on the whitewashed walls of the buildings below.

"I had to send someone else to light the fuses," Eugenides said behind him.

"Fuses?" asked the magus, with a sick feeling.

"In the powder magazines of your warships," Eugenides explained.

"Powder magazines?"

"You sound like a chorus in a play," said Eugenides.

"And the play is a tragedy, I suppose?"

"A farce," Eugenides suggested, and the magus winced.

i know! i love them..if you read the books and know how their sort of relationship of respect is founded in the first book and later on manifests in the subsequent ones..oh it's so nice!

there's this one part in the The Thief when the magus tells eugenides that "we may one day establish a relationship of mutual respect." and eugenides thinks to himself: "yeah. i'd see the gods walking on earth before that day." or something similar.

and the thing is, he really does see the gods walking on earth and then he really does develop that sort of relationship with the magus. really, really nice.
