my dad can be so cheesy. he just told me to enjoy my Terrific Thursday. sheesh.
after seeing my aunt off at the airport this morning, we had our (almost traditional) see-someone-off-at-the-airport breakfast at Burger King which has happened consecutively for the past four times i've been to the airport. (they were out of sausage this time so i had to settle for turkey bacon which was a crunchy experience to say the least.)
did receive perhaps the most joyous birthday present EVER. (though its full value is yet to be determined.) the pharmacy faculty at NUS has decided to make a positive change to its cirriculum! therefore, as of my batch, Year 2 students no longer have to take Metabolism and Regulation as a faculty requirement. (YAY!) instead, we must take Foundation of Effective Communication. it sounds dodgy, i know, but i'm not complaining because i really dont like biochemistry. and i think THIS was the module where they make you memorise every single thing about Glycolysis and the Krebs cycle and.. *shudder*..it's horrific.
some clips from Pottercast episode 112: dont read on, blah blah blah..
"this was more dumbledore than i ever expected, in this book.."
-- -- -- --
"and the graffiti at godric's hollow! "harry, we're with you"..yeah! it sort of reminds you that we're with them, and it's really intense, and they're sleeping in caves, and..playing Lord of the Rings out there.."
-- -- -- --
"but we all sort of forgive him because he's dumbledore and he's twinkly and whatever.."
-- -- -- --
"...the Fallen Warrior Chapter. the funny part about that was that we didnt know that Moody died until later in the chapter. we only knew that Hedwig died at that point. so we were like, Hedwig's a fallen warrior! nooo! poor hedwig! "

"it was just war scene after war scene after war scene..my friend David for the past three books has been saying, whenever we get to a real big battle scene or it seems like the stakes are raised, he's like, "it's not a game! it's not a game anymore!" but THIS time he was like, "there are no games! how many games are there? NONE! this is a NO GAME book!""
clips from Mugglecast 102:
"unknown person: dobby's was probably the saddest death.." *murmurs of agreement in the crowd*
ben: oh i dont know..what about poor voldemort though..poor voldemort -
UP: - poor voldemort?? *laugher*
ben: think about it though..for all these years, he has all these, like, elaborate plots to kill harry. and then he overlooks one, tiny, little thing, whereas harry always just shows up on the spot, throws up an expelliarmus and lucks out...
UP: we keep having this talk and ben keeps coming up with all these reasons why voldemort should be forgiven because he isnt really mean, and he does plan all these things..you know, for 13 years to be planning these things, he's been in hiding, and then, as you say, harry just thwarts him with an expelliarmus or with hermione clutching his hand at the last minute.. *laughter* but then, i always point out that, ben, he has murdered hundreds of thousands of people, which kinda puts a downer on his good side.
ben: oh no, i'm not saying he's good..i'm just saying he deserves a lot more credit than he's given.
*pause*
UP: yeahhh......"

"jamie: okay. whatever bad things snape has done, and there are numerous instances, as alex points out..the fact that he was playing a double life and obviously when people called him a coward, it really got to him, cos that's the one thing he wasnt being - a coward. he was, you know, helping harry, he was helping dumbledore..he was working on dumbledore's orders and completely destroying himself by playing this dual role..i dont see how anyone could ever think of him as bad. you should feel ashamed of yourselves if you do, i think.
mikey: i dont agree with you at all.
jamie: well you should feel ashamed of yourself, mikey..
unknown person: justify yourself then, mikey.
mikey: i can justify myself. i -
jamie: mikey, can i just ask how you sleep at night? cos i -
mikey: usually, i close my eyes. and then i'll sleep.
jamie: wow. i should try that.
mikey: it works, you know..no light gets in.. *laughter* um. i agree. snape has done a lot, especially at the end of book seven..you find out, you know, the Prince's Tale. he's done a lot of great things and really, that silver doe kinda brings back..you know, i dont hate him as much anymore. i used to loathe snape with a passion. cos he was just so mean to harry and harry was like..come on, it's called Harry Potter, you know..i was all about harry, you know? he's cool. umm..but no, he really has been, like, just a jerk to harry throughout the entire series and okay, i know i know, it's building character, blah, blah, blah - he was still mean, though. and really, he's still..you know, a greasy git. when it comes down to it. he really is! you know, he needs to take a shower, he needs to wash his hair.. *laughter*
jamie: well, i think being a greasy git is less of a crime than collaborating with the greatest dark lord who's killed thousands and thousands of people."

"jamie: ...but dumbledore's there to say... it's up to you now. you can either join it and get on the train and go to the netherworld or you can go back to where you've come from...and...save the day.
ben: yes. like he does, because that's harry's job.
jamie: well, okay. he has help to save the day, now doesnt he, ben..should we get into this about hermione always helping him and giving him a helping hand?
UP: yeahh..i just..okay. without hermione, harry would be absolutely hosed. i mean, seriously. she's the one who figures everything out. he doesnt - *sounds of clapping*
jamie: he always wakes up, you know, after fainting and hermione's there, breathless, saying, "*gasp* that was a close call, harry!"
UP: that's like all of book seven! besides that, they were just camping out, going from place to place..that was weird."
note to the interested: i dont agree with everything the podcasters say in their analysis of the book. some parts actually make me go what the heck! but other parts are really funny and worthwhile. i think i like mugglecast (from mugglenet.com) better than pottercast (from the-leaky-cauldron.org) maybe just because they are funnier and seem to be comfortable with contradicting each other. they're on a road trip together at the moment, stopping at certain libraries and bookstores for recordings with fans so...it's pretty funny. enjoy!
